In 1976, the company acquired an existing random length sawmill
which became Prairie Wood Products.
In
1978, a separate stud mill and planer operation was built and went
into operation on the Prairie Wood Products site .
The
company expanded into the generation of electricity by building
two co-generation plants near its sawmills in 1986 and 1987.
Umpqua
Lumber Company, a highly efficient studmill, was acquired
in 1992. In the same year, Grant
Western was acquired. It was modernized a year later, and
is now one of the finest producers of pine products in the industry.
The
most recent addition to the D.R. Companies is Wallowa
Forest Products, purchased in 1996.
Throughout
its years of growth the company has adhered to its basic goals of
supplying good value and service to its customers.
